Preparing for a maternity session is exciting, but it can also come with a few questions. Every mother wants to feel comfortable confident and relaxed, and that is exactly what I aim to create with every shoot. Here are my personal recommendations to help you get the most out of your maternity photos and enjoy the full experience.

The ideal time for your session is usually between twenty five and thirty four weeks. During this window most women feel their best. There is freedom of movement, less discomfort and a beautiful curve to the belly that photographs perfectly. It is also a safer and more enjoyable stage for ocean sessions.

Light plays a huge role in the mood of your photos. Sunrise is my favourite time overall. It brings soft pastel tones and a calm atmosphere that suits maternity beautifully. For my coastal collection I recommend sunrise or sunset for the land based component and high sun from mid morning to mid afternoon for the sea session. Strong midday light works wonderfully underwater and highlights the clarity and colours of the South Coast.

When it comes to outfits comfort is the priority. Wear what feels like you. Jeans and a swim top a beautiful flowing dress even trackies if that is your vibe. For the water I often recommend a bikini or even nudity if you feel comfortable. It allows your body to be captured in the most natural way and connects you fully with the ocean.

I do not provide a wardrobe but I will happily guide you with styling ideas. My brand is deeply connected to the coastal colours of Wollongong and the South Coast. Soft blues sandy neutrals and earthy tones always look incredible here, but there are endless beautiful locations throughout the region that suit many styles.

Makeup is entirely up to you. Some women enjoy a fresh natural face while others prefer a soft glow. Underwater there is no need for makeup at all. The ocean does all the work.

My approach is simple. I will make you laugh. I am the biggest goose and I love breaking the ice by making fun of myself. You do not need to think about posing or where to put your hands. That is my job. Before the shoot we will chat about whether you prefer something more posed or something natural and full of movement. In the water we simply go for a swim together and let the moment take shape.

Bring a towel if you plan to swim and maybe two outfit options to make the most of the session. If there is something personal like a surfboard bring it along. Partners and children are more than welcome. I also adore solo sessions because they are deeply empowering for mothers.

Most maternity shoots run for forty five minutes to an hour and a half depending on the package. The only thing to avoid is leaving your booking too late. Sessions fill fast and underwater shoots are weather dependent.

My favourite location is The Farm at Shellharbour. The water is beautifully clear and the scenery is stunning. We are truly lucky to live in such a beautiful region.

My biggest piece of advice is simple. I will do everything I can to make this a positive and enjoyable experience. I cannot wait to bring a gorgeous vision to life with you.
